Polk County Public Schools will host its annual Polk Symposium on Special Education on March 10 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tenoroc High School, 4905 Saddle Creek Road in Lakeland.

The event is free and open to the public. It is designed to provide parents of special needs children with valuable information and access to resources.

“The Polk Symposium on Special Education provides a great opportunity for families of students with disabilities to meet and engage with school district personnel and community agencies and resources who support their children,” said Kimberly Steinke, assistant superintendent for learning support.

“Topical sessions are provided for parents to hear and learn information about serving their children. The beauty of the symposium is that everyone is together in one place for the day so parents can access contacts and resources at once. We are excited to welcome families to this annual event.”

The keynote speaker will be Michael Rivera, an award-winning teacher and stand-up comedian, who will present “Creating a Trusted Environment Through Humor.”

Additional presentations will be made by representatives of FDLRS/FIN Sunrise, Project 10, Disability Rights of Florida, ESE Advisory Council, Polk ESE Department, Polk Student Services Department, Holladay Child Development Services, and Florida Developmental Disabilities Council.

Attendees will also enjoy free breakfast and lunch, door prizes and giveaways.

Thank you, Lake Region High School!!

A special thank you from our hearts to the Lake Region High School iMAG Academy.  They reached out to us looking to adopt 5 families for the holiday season.  They found and bought all of the gifts, wrapped each one, and even had Santa come deliver them to our school!  When the kids were opening the presents, we couldn’t tell who was more excited, the givers or the receivers!  We are very thankful for them and their generous act of giving this holiday season.  Thank you, Lake Region High School!
